Master Chief Jahmal Pereira

Deputy Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard

Master Chief Jahmal Pereira assumed the duties of the Deputy Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard on May 17, 2024. As Deputy MCPOCG, he serves as the principal advisor to the 14th Master Chief Petty officer of the Coast Guard and Senior Executive Leadership on all matters affecting morale, work-life, and general well-being of the Coast Guard total workforce and their families. Furthermore, he acts as the program manager for the Coast Guard’s Command Senior Enlisted Leader Program, overseeing the CSEL network’s efforts in realizing Office of the MCPOCG Initiatives. 

Prior to this assignment, he served as the Deputy Commandant for Mission Support Command Master Chief. His primary responsibility was to advise DCMS on personnel and policy impacts pertaining to Coast Guard missions, programs, and services directly supporting the 17,000 men and women who enable operations and take care of our families. The vast mission support enterprise consists of Coast Guard logistics and service centers, training centers and bases, C5I, infrastructure, acquisitions and personnel support programs.  Meaning, if it floats or flies, has a roof, or a heartbeat, it falls under Mission Support. Prior to his role as the DCMS CMC, he served as the Deputy Commandant for Operations CMC. His primary responsibility included advising DCO on personnel and policy impacts pertaining to Coast Guard missions, programs, and services concentrating on intel, cyber, international affairs, the maritime transportation system, search and rescue, law enforcement, defense operations, environmental response, and the operational capabilities of cutter, boat, aviation, shore, and deployable specialized forces. 

Previous assignments include serving as the Ninth Coast Guard District CMC, supporting Coast Guard members and their families living in the eight states that surround the Great Lakes, the Coast Guard Leadership Development Center CMC while dual hatted as the Senior Enlisted Leadership Course School Chief. He has also served as an instructor for the Chief Petty Officers Academy in Petaluma, CA. Three tours in Kodiak, AK, two tours in Mobile, AL, as well as having served at several Marine Corps, Army, and Coast Guard units; Marine Corps units include Paris Island, SC, Camp Foster Okinawa, Japan, and Camp Pendleton, CA. Army Installations include Fort Benning, GA, Fort Lee, VA, and Fort Bliss, TX.  

DMCPOCG Pereira holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology with a specialty in Security Systems, a Master of Science Degree in Business Management, and is a certified Professional Executive Coach through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. He is a graduate of Class 157 of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy, Class 33 of the Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, Class 65 of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, and Class 19-2 of the National Defense University’s Keystone Command Senior Enlisted Course. 

DMCPOCG Pereira’s awards are commensurate with senior enlisted leaders of similar rank and years of service. As well as other team and service awards, he has earned the Coast Guard Basic Aircrew insignia, the Navy Marine Corps Parachute insignia, and Command Master Chief Silver & Gold Badge insignias, including the DCO, DCMS, and Deputy insignias and Commandant’s Staff Badge.
