Vice Admiral Nathan A. Moore

Vice Admiral Moore assumed the duties as Commander, Atlantic Area in May 2024 where he is responsible for directing Coast Guard forces and operations across all mission areas in five Districts from the Navigable Inland Waterways east of the Rocky Mountains to the Great Lakes, Gulf Coast, and East Coast of the United States throughout the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent parts of the Arctic Ocean to the Arabian Gulf. He also serves as Commander, Coast Guard Defense Force East, providing Coast Guard support as part of the joint force to the Department of Defense and Combatant Commanders for national defense missions. He is also appointed and serves as the Director, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Joint Task Force East, responsible for coordinating and synchronizing DHS cross-component operations to address threats to the southeast U.S. border and approaches.

Vice Admiral Moore previously served as the Deputy Commander, Atlantic Area. Other flag assignments include serving as Commander, 17th Coast Guard District where he was responsible for Coast Guard operations throughout Alaska, the North Pacific Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and the Bering Sea. He served as the Assistant Commandant for Engineering and Logistics (CG-4), responsible for all naval, aeronautical, civil, and industrial engineering and logistics for the Service. Additionally, VADM Moore served as the Deputy Commander Pacific Area where he was responsible for all Coast Guard mission from the Rocky Mountains west to the eastern coast of Africa.

As a cutterman, Vice Admiral Moore served as a Student Engineer aboard USCGC Polar Star (WAGB 10), Engineer Officer aboard USCGC Harriet Lane (WMEC 903), Executive Officer of USCGC Venturous (WMEC 625), Commanding Officer aboard USCGC Resolute (WMEC 620), and most recently Commanding Officer of USCGC Stratton (WMSL 752).

Previous staff assignments include: Chief of Staff of U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area, Chief of the Office of Naval Engineering at Coast Guard Headquarters (CG-45), Chief of the Officer Assignment Branch (OPM-2) at Personnel Services Center, Commanding Officer of Naval Engineering Support Unit Honolulu, and ship stability instructor at the Navy Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, Rhode Island.

Vice Admiral Moore graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in 1992. He holds both a Masters of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan and Masters of National Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School. His military decorations include five Legions of Merit, five Meritorious Service Medals, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, and the Navy Commendation Medal. He has been a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Michigan since 1999.
