Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Matt Lake

Assistant Commandant for Resources & Chief Financial Officer

Rear Admiral Lake currently serves as the Assistant Commandant for Resources and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the U.S. Coast Guard. He is responsible for all budgetary, financial and resource management activities relating to the programs and operations of the organization with an annual budget of $13 billion.

Read Admiral Lake’s military service experience also includes a variety of operational and field support assignments such as serving on the Coast Guard Cutters MIDGETT and NORTHLAND. He was also the first Product Line Engineering Chief, for the Surface Forces Logistics Center , and he was the Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard Yard.

He also worked for the DHS Chief Financial Officer, and he coordinated the formulation and justification of DHS’ $65 billion President’s Budget Request to Congress. Rear Admiral Lake served as the Assistant Program Executive Officer for Surface Acquisitions, where he led the Coast Guard’s cutter and boat construction and renovation programs at shipyards throughout the United States.

RDML Lake earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1995. He earned Master of Science degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering in 1999 from the University of Michigan. He was selected as a MIT Sloan Fellow and earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 2016.
