Life-Saving Station Galloo Island was established June 20, 1874.  The station was damaged during a 1929 storm and was completely rebuilt in 1937.

Serious discussions to close the lifeboat station due to a lack of SAR cases surfaced in 1949 and again in 1957.  The station was eventually disestablished in 1973.  Responsibilities of the station were taken over by the Coast Guard stations in Oswego and Alexandria Bay.
