Remarks:
This station appears in the 1882 records at a position given as "at the light." A note in the 1878 Annual Report: "The new station mentioned as desirable to be built at Montauk Point has not been erected, it being found impossible to obtain title to the site selected on account of the premises being in litigation." In the 1900 Annual Report, its listing is accompanied by the note "in charge of keeper of Ditch Plain Station; no crew employed."
Keepers:
The first keeper is believed to have been Jonathan Miller, who was also a lighthouse keeper. The term of his appointment is unknown.
