Remarks:
The station at "Hampton Beach, north one and one-half miles of Great Boars Head" was built in 1898 and completed in 1899. The station name was changed from Great Boars Head to Hampton Beach by Treasury Department Circular No. 61 and was effective July 1, 1902. The station dwelling, equipment building, boathouse, and launch way were rebuilt in 1938 with funds provided by the Work Relief and Appropriation Act. The station was remained active throughout the war and disappeared from the listing of stations in January 1970. The property was turned over to the GSA.
Keepers:
The first keeper was Benjamin F. Smart, who was appointed December 31, 1898 and who retired with thirty years service on November 25, 1916. He was followed by Jasper M. Myers, reassigned from the Burnt Island station on December 1, 1916, and who served until appointed as Assistant to the First District Supervisor in Portsmouth on April 16, 1925). He was followed by Clifton M. Guptil (came from Quoddy Head station on October 2, 1916 and returned on November 4, 1927). Next came Chief Petty Officers Elden H. Godfrey and, in 1929, and P. F. Myers (from Cranberry Island, he was gone in 1935).
