Cutter History:
Vixen, a side-wheel steamer originally built for the Mexican government, was seized by the United States at the beginning of the war with Mexico. Sold in 1855, she was a Coast Survey vessel when turned over to the Revenue Service in May 1861. Two weeks later she was returned, and she served in the Navy again.
