Vice Admiral Martin H. Daniell, Jr.

Vice Admiral Martin H. Daniell, Jr. became Commander, Coast Guard Pacific Area, and Commander, U.S. Maritime Defense Zone, Pacific, on June 30, 1992.  He became Commander, Joint Talk Force Five on April 6, 1994.  Vice Admiral Daniell retired on June 1, 1994.

Prior to this assignment he served as Vice Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, taking that assignment in May of 1990.  He served as Commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District in Miami where he also headed the Vice President's South Florida (Drug) Task Force, and Southeast Region of the National Narcotic Border Interdiction System. 

While stationed at Headquarters from 1983 to 1988, Vice Admiral Daniell served as Chief, Operational Law Enforcement Division; Deputy Chief, Office of Opeartions; Deputy Chief of Staff of the Coast Guard; and Chief of the Office of Navigation.

Vice Admiral Daniell's previous assignments include command of the cutters Mellon, Yocona, Bittersweet, and Cape Horn.  He also served as Executive Officer of the cutter Blackthorn, and First Lieutenant of the cutter Winnebago.  Shore assignments include duty as Commander, Base and Group Mobile, Alabama, and Assistant Division Chief of the Headquarters Enlisted Personnel Division.

Vice Admiral Daniell received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Dartmouth College, Hanover, Hew Hampshire, in 1957, and a Master of Science Degree in Management from the U.S. Naval Postrgraduate School, Monterey, California, in 1966.  He also attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at the National Defense University, Washington, D.C., from 1977 to 1978.  He served as Assistant Professor of Economics and Management at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, from 1966 to 1969.

His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Gold Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, and three Coast Guard Commendation Medals with operational distinguishing device.

Vice Admiral Daniell is from Ensenada, Puerto Rico, where he spent his early years.  His family later moved to Woodbridge, Connecticut.  He is married to the former Carolyn "Callie" B. of Mobile, Alabama.  They have three children: Abby and Jennifer of Washington, D.C. and LTJG Martin H. Daniell, III, U.S.N.
