Rear Admiral Daniel B. Lloyd’s last active duty assignment was as Director for Joint Interagency Task Force South where he led a high performing joint, civilian and international team building critically productive and enduring U.S. and international partnerships resulting in record levels of disrupted illicit trafficking events. He pioneered the use of new technologies and platforms contributing to National Security.
His previous flag officer tours included Deputy Director National Maritime Intelligence Center, Military Advisor to the Secretary, United States Department of Homeland Security and Senior DHS Advisor to the Commander, NORAD and USNORTHCOM.
A native of Illinois, Rear Admiral Lloyd graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and served his first tour aboard the CGC Steadfast, followed by completion of Naval Flight Training as a Distinguished Graduate. Early Aviation tours included stations in California, Alaska, and Air Station Washington, DC, where he flew worldwide missions in a Gulfstream II aircraft for the Secretary of Transportation and the U.S. Coast Guard Commandant. His command tours include Coast Guard Air Station Houston, TX, a deploying HH-65 helicopter unit, and Air Station Clearwater, FL, the Coast Guard’s largest operational unit operating HH-60 helicopters and HC-130H aircraft. He has logged over 4600 flight hours. His past staff tours include Aide to the Commandant, Deputy Program Manager for the Coast Guard’s Deepwater Capabilities Replacement Program, and Chief, Law Enforcement & Security Division, Interagency Coordination Directorate, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM).
Rear Admiral Lloyd was a pre-designated Principle Federal Official (PFO) for FEMA Region III during the 2008 hurricane season. He participated as a PFO for National Level Exercise 2-08, an exercise involving a major hurricane and terrorist threat. In his role as Military Advisor to the Secretary, Rear Admiral Lloyd also deployed for Hurricanes IKE and GUSTAV supporting consequence management.
Rear Admiral Lloyd has a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy and is a Distinguished Graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences from the United States Coast Guard Academy.
Rear Admiral Lloyd’s personal awards include the Director’s Award for Distinguished Service – Executive Office of the President - Office of National Drug Control Policy, Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Legion of Merit with two gold stars, Netherlands Ministry of Defence Medal of Merit in Gold and the Department of Transportation 9/11 Medal.
Rear Admiral Lloyd is married to the former Susan D. Litwiller of Silver Spring, Maryland. They have two grown children and eight grandchildren. Rear Admiral Lloyd retired on 30 September 2011 to Colorado.
