Cadet William B. Turek, USCG. Scanned from Tide Rips. LCDR William Turek died in the line of duty in 1993 while completing the reactivation inspection of the M/V CAPE DIAMOND in Norfolk, VA, in 1993. The carbon dioxide flooding system failed during a test of the engine room extinguishing alarm system. LCDR Bill Turek entered the space to evacuate the crew but lost his life in the process.
